A Radiology Repair Department at an Academic Medical Center was spending over $3,500 to document the annual inspection of the 800 plus radiology aprons. With the addition of a passive RFID tag to the apron, this cost is estimated to be less than $500.
The Passive RFID tags can be retrofit or included during the manufacturing process. An RFID hand held computer is used by the technician to identify all aprons of a group that have not been inspected. It provides drop down menus to Pass or Fail the apron and an area to add appropriate documentation. A master list will be automatically updated.

A Radiology Repair Department at an Academic Medical Center could not locate 300 of their 800 plus radiology aprons. They were finally located after many hours of searching. With the addition of an Active RFID tag to the apron, each vest can be easily located and inspected to conform to requirements.
An Active RFID is attached to all aprons. The names of the tags mirror the name of the individual apron. The location is provided by Real Time Location System of the facility. The Active RFID tags can be retrofit or included during the manufacturing process.
